The Red Course, AKA the Stone Wall Snowshoe Course, has been identified as one of the most challenging snowshoe courses. “Relentless” is my favorite term. Find RED Start sign on Bargy Road near the timing shed. Take a right onto Bronze trail, you have 1 mile to get to the parking lot at CCC. Bronze will bring you to Rt 90 which you will cross, be careful crossing, and another .3 miles you arrive at Pussycat Trail, red arrow sends you left. Follow Pussycat back to CCC. Notice red arrow sending you right in parking area, find Stone Wall Trail. A gradual downhill, brings you to Rt 90 road crossing. Stay straight on Stone Wall after crossing the road, see the red straight arrow. After crossing road, less than .1 mile, you leave trail, to a “trail-less” section of the course, where things get interesting. There is a red straight arrow guiding you to the “trail-less” section. You will want to follow only when we have good snow. This is not an actual trail, but I marked it very well with red markers, you will have no trouble following. Enjoy this section, it is what snowshoe is meant to be. Embrace the burning quads and ripping calves as you encounter the steep climb back up to Stone Wall trail, following the red right turn arrow. Follow Stone Wall until it ends at Frank’s Fancy. Right turn arrow onto Frank’s, cross creek, veer right, and go another .2 to Hessel Rd. Go straight across, seeing easy to follow red straight arrow. A short distance (100 meters) and you are turning left onto Stone Wall South, and more glorious single track. Eventually arrive at “Winter Route” where you will go right. Follow ridge to left turn onto Frank’s, crossing a creek on a bridge. F4rom here, you will hop onto Otso’s Ridge Trail, joining the Orange Course for just a quick climb, before entering a “trail-less” section. Easy to follow red markers will take you through the woods and eventually to Winona Way at Bernie’s Bypass. Run Bernie’s all the way until it ends. Bernie’s Bypass ends at Shady Shuttle, and for a brief time you join both the Blue and Orange Courses. Pay attention, the Red Course leaves Shady at a steep climb, to another “Trail-less” section. Prepare yourself mentally and physically, this is going to be awesome. Easy to follow red markers through this entire section, brings you to Tie. I’ll leave out the details, I don’t want to spoil it. Follow right turn arrow onto Tie, and at another 200 meters Tie ends, you follow the right turn arrow onto Winona Way. (Orange Course overlaps here) Another .2, you drop down a noticeable hill into a valley, and coming out, you will see an arrow directing you left onto Otso’s Ridge Trail. Creek on your left, and a steep climb out of the valley, this awesome single track is a favorite, up, down, up again, about .5 miles total, your tested quads will bring you back to Frank’s Fancy. This looks familiar, you will follow straight arrow onto a portion you have done before, back over bridge, and turning right onto Stone Wall South. Follow Stone Wall South until it ends, you follow right arrow onto Frank’s Fancy, cross Hessel Rd staying on Frank’s, back over creek, take left onto Stone Wall. Again, you did all this earlier. Note: you will not do the trail-less section on your return. No worries, just pay attention to red markers. Following the Stone Wall Trail, and Red markers, you almost reach Rt 90, but just before you will follow right arrow sending you on Streamside. Creek is on your left, along with a few camps. You climb, and the trail almost ends when you take a sharp left, which pops you out onto Bargy Road, a wide snowmobile road. Arrow sends you left, down Bargy and a gradual downhill, to Finish at timing shed. Nice job! FYI - in 2021 Bob Bolton ran this same loop 4 times in about 5 hours.

This is an OUT-N-BACK Course Beginning on North Church Road, the course begins on Shady Shuttle. Look for the blue “Start” sign on the right hand side of the trail near the gate. Guiding you are small BLUE rectangles on posts and trees. There is some overlap of other courses on this route, orange and red, so don’t get distracted, focus on BLUE. The course starts with a gentle rise, then levels out for a bit. At about .3 miles you will drop into a very nice valley with a creek. You will cross the creek on one of our recently built bridges. Climbing back out of the valley, you will see Bernie’s Bypass on your right, used for the Red Course. Stay on BLUE. Another .1 mile, Red veers off to the right, you stay on Blue. The trail gently drops down again and soon you will pass over another newly built bridge. After the bridge, you will arrive at an intersection, you will stay to the left (focus on BLUE), continuing on Shady Shuttle. After a small rise, and you will continue on a very pleasant section of spruce forest, offering protection from the elements. At about .3 miles from the last intersection, you will approach a closed gate in which you will go around. Follow Blue, crossing Wart Rd, and continuing on Shady Shuttle. Another .1 you will take a right onto Lookout Trail. This single track trail was built in the Spring of 2019, and follows a ridge full of very nice overlooks. After a couple quick down and ups, you will come to a more significant drop you are certain to notice. At the bottom, you will see a creek on your right, trail leads to the Turnaround sign in less that .1 from bottom of hill, at Backus Bend, a snowmobile trail. Hopefully you saved some fuel, you’ll need it on that climb back out. Return exactly as you came.

This is an Out and Back Course Roadside parking- Alice’s Alley, head south following Start Sign and trail. This very nice wide, likely groomed trail is part of our popular event loop used by the ski and fat bike events. Your first intersection will be Ted’s Turn. You will stay on Alice’s Alley, leaving wide groomed trail to either ungroomed, or single track groomed. Head down hill to a bridge and nice creek crossing. The trail gets very remote now, and will remain that way. An uphill and flat section, eventually arriving at a snowmobile trail crossing, Tucker Rd. You will cross and join Rasberry Trail. Flat for a bit, watch for a veer to the left, taking you downhill, down some more, and to a creek and bridge in much need of repair (hopefully coming soon). Proceed past bridge to a wet section and then up a hill to the turn around.

YELLOW COURSE MAP
Beginning on North Church Road, the course begins on Winona Way at the parking lot, which may or may not be plowed. Look for the orange “Start” sign on the left hand side (north) of the road. Guiding you are small Orange rectangles on posts and trees. Eventually, there is some overlap of other courses on this route, blue and red, stay focused on Orange. At the Orange START sign on Winona Way, follow Orange and Winona Way until you reach Frank’s Fancy, a nice stretch of nothing too serious, just nice old growth forest and trail. Follow Orange arrow to the right, turning on Frank’s. Another .5 and you will take a left onto Otso’s Ridge, leaving the wide trail onto single track. Quick uphill. Pay attention here, Red cirse goes straight into a trailless section, you will stay on Otso’ Ridge. Creek on your right, this awesome single track is a favorite, up, down, up again, about .5 miles total, your tested quads and steep downhill will bring you out to Winona Way. Take a right onto WW. You have a climb ahead, and .2 later, take left onto Tie. Another .2 and Tie will become Shady Shuttle. Easy - it is marked well, just follow Orange. A bridge, some climbs, and another .5 miles later you will reach the plowed North Church road which you will cross and continue along Shady Shuttle. Another .2, take a left onto Jimmy’s Jaunt. A long grind ahead, but a spectacular spruce forest awaits you. Jimmy's Jaunt ends, you stay straight onto Winona Way and .1 to the finish line and parking lot.
CCC Camp parking area and Bargy Road Start. You will see Green Course sign on right of Bargy road. Head up Bargy road, slight uphill, and near top of hill, look for sign me=arker arrow taking you to the right. No trail here so be alert. Another quick right and you are on Streamside (no sign) heading slightly downhill. Stream on your right along the way. Trail ends at Stone Wall, you will go right, and across Rt. 90. IN about .1 miles, head left, through gate, and lok for single track trail and green arrow taking your right. This is Norway Trail (no sign) which is a couple mile loop trail. Well marked, you will eventually return to gate, heading left to finish at CCC.
This is a Loop Course This is likely to be the most heavily used course of the marathon courses, as it is easiest to access, right at the Wart Road (P1) parking area. You will find the black “Start” sign on the right hand side of the beginning of Bill’s Belly trail. Guiding you are small BLACK rectangles on posts and trees. The course begins on Bill’s Belly, and at about .25 you will cross Winona Way, you stay on Bill’s Belly. (see Black straight arrow). Another .1 brings you to a short steep down, then a quick up, followed by a level section. At 1 mile from start you arrive at a new bridge, then a pleasant section of spruce, another new bridge, and then Hawley Rd. Be careful crossing, this is a snowmobile trail. Black straight arrow continues on Bill’s Belly, followed by a well deserved downhill, another new bridge, and a quick up to our newly built picnic pavilion on your right. Still on Bill’s, another .2 and you are crossing Hiscock trail, another Black straight arrow keeps you on Bill’s. Another .2 miles brings you to yet another new bridge, and .2 beyond that, Bill’s Belly trail ends. Black arrow sends you to the right onto Shady Shuttle. You are only on Shady for about .1, and you will turn right onto Jimmy’s Jaunt. The Orange Course also runs Jimmy’s, but in the opposite “downhill” direction. For the Black course, you get the opportunity to run it all uphill, embrace the challenge, this is a beautiful trail. Pay attention to Black arrow to the right at the end of Jimmy’s sending you onto Winona Way. Once on Winona, you will immediately go downhill, short level section, then back uphill. Another .2 and you will be running along a very cool historic stone wall, evidence of long ago farm lands. Wall is along your left. Cross a new bridge, gentle rise, another .3 and you are crossing Hiscock again, black straight arrow keeping you on Winona Way. Another .3 and you are crossing Hawley Road, and are about 2 miles from the finish. You stay on Winona Way. Next intersection, another .3, and you will see black arrow sending you right, keeping you on Winona Way. Little Sandy Creek is on your left as you continue, followed by a noticeable climb to higher ground. Soon you will arrive at and see evidence of a recent logged section of forest, continue focusing on Black markers. You will notice a very out of place wide open area where the logging trucks staged their pick up area, which leads to a gradual downhill all the way back to Bill’s Belly. Pay attention, there is a left arrow sending you on Bill’s, back to the finish. Lot’s of reading, but very simple. Bill’s Belly, all the way to Shady, Right on Shady, Right on Jimmy’s Jaunt, Right on Winona Way, all the way to Bill’s Belly, take a left on Bill’s to finish.
